Looking for a roofer in Newcastle? These are the ten local roofers with the strongest Google reviews. We ranked them on their rating and on how many reviews back it up.

Bar chart of how many Google reviews each of the ten listed roofers has
How many Google reviews back each rating on this list, read 29 October 2026.

Why it counts. A perfect score from a few reviews is a start. A strong score from a hundred is a track record. Our order gives the track record more weight.

Our view. Review counts here run from 16 to 732, so read the score and the number of reviews together before you call. Two of the ten hold a licence we could match on the NSW register, so ask the others for their number and check it yourself.

Roof repairs, restoration or a new roof?

Most Newcastle roofers offer three kinds of job, and the price gap between them is large.

Ask the roofer to send photos taken from the roof that show the damage and explain why they chose repair, restoration or replacement.

Gutter repairs and downpipes are often cheaper to fix in the same visit.

The licences roofers hold

Roof plumbing, roof tiling and roof slating are separate licence categories in NSW, and each is needed for residential work worth more than $5,000 (NSW Government, categories of work). A metal roof and a tiled roof can need different trades, so check that the licence on the register matches the roof you have.

The catch. A licence shows the roofer may do the work. It does not show how well they do it, so read the recent reviews too.

Check the licence before you pay anything

The NSW Government's free check shows whether a licence is current and what work it covers.

Safety on your roof

Falls from heights are the number one cause of death on NSW construction sites, and the most serious falls are from roofs, ladders and scaffolds (SafeWork NSW, roof edge protection).

Where work on a roof cannot be avoided, SafeWork says physical guardrails are the best way to stop a fall over the edge. Ask how your roofer will protect the edge, and make sure scaffolding or rails are priced in the quote rather than added later.

Older roofs and asbestos

Asbestos was used in roofs, ceilings and walls in homes built before the late 1980s (SafeWork NSW, asbestos). Never let anyone water-blast, drill or cut an old fibro roof or eave before it is tested. Friable asbestos, and more than 10 square metres of bonded asbestos, must be removed by a licensed asbestos professional.

What to do next. Shortlist three roofers from the list, check each licence, then compare written quotes that say exactly what work is included.
